FAQ:

Q: "Will my Granicrete countertop scratch?"

A: All surfaces scratch on some level, a Granicrete countertop is no exception. However, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the impact of scratches and/or remove them.

  • With any countertop material, we recommend using a cutting board. It is not recommended that you cut directly on the Granicrete surface.
  • Choosing a painted finish with a range a of tones and some texture will not accentuate scratches that do occur.
  • We recommend that the Granicrete countertop be slightly sanded and brought back to a light gloss look by applying a Diamond Coat finish. Diamond Coat is an additional layer of protectant making the Granicrete countertop stronger and more scratch resistant.
  • Some scratches can be removed with a scratch repair kit , if necessary, all scratches can be removed with another layer of epoxy.
  • It is very important to let your Granicrete counter cure completely after installation. While the epoxy may be dry to the touch within 24 hours, it is still soft and has not fully cured until 7 - 10 days.

Q: "Will my Granicrete countertop scorch if I put a hot pan straight from the oven or range on it?"

A: A Granicrete countertop has been tested at 500 degrees Fahrenheit. We recommend using a trivet or heat pad when placing hot pots and pans directly on the surface. Occasionally, hot items placed directly on a Granicrete countertop may result in cloudiness. Heat can activate the tiny traces of residual moisture in the concrete mix and draw them to the surface, especially during the early stages of the countertop's lifetime. If this occurs, carefully use a heat gun or hair dryer to lift the cloudiness out.

Q: "How long does it take to install a Granicrete countertop?

A: When resurfacing an existing counter, it generally takes three days: one day to prep, one day to finish applying material and colouring, and the final day to apply the epoxy and clean the work area. Fabricating a new countertop off-site, results in a shorter installation time.
